The Pottawattamie County Veterans Service Office is hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 10 am – 12 pm. Members of the public are invited to bring United States flags that are considered no longer fit for display and join us in honoring our nation’s flag and all it represents.
Flags that are not officially retired during the ceremony will be removed by American Legion representatives for later retirement as stipulated by U.S. Flag Code.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
10 am: Corridor of Flags and Flag inspection
10:30 am: Abraham Lincoln High School ROTC Color Guard demonstration, Pledge of Allegiance, and opening ceremony remarks
10:45 am: Flag Retirement performed by American Legion Post 2, Scout Troop 249, and VFW Post 11355
11 am: 21-gun salute and closing remarks
We are proud to have American Legion Post 2, VFW Post 11355, American Legion Post 725, Scouts Troop 249, Legion Post 2 Women’s Auxiliary, and the Abraham Lincoln High School ROTC join us for this event.
