DESCRIPTION:Lucy Gilmore\, author of OUR Community Reads 2026 title Lonely Hearts Book Club\, joins us for an author talk and Q&A. Book signing to follow. \nLucy Gilmore began her writing career in 2012 as a romance author. Since then\, she’s expanded to include cozy mysteries (as Tamara Berry) and upmarket women’s fiction (as Lucy Gilmore). She graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English literature degree\, where she learned about Very Important Books and also that she vastly prefers to read about love and murder. In 2023\, she was awarded the first-ever Lilian Jackson Braun Award at the Edgars for her cozy mystery Buried in a Good Book. That was the same year that one of her women’s fiction novels\, The Lonely Hearts Book Club\, was chosen as a Barnes & Noble Fiction Pick of the Month. Most of her books are set in and around the Pacific Northwest\, where she makes her home with her husband\, son\, and far more pets than any of them needs. \nBooks will be for sale at the event in partnership with The Bookworm. \nDoors will open at 6 p.m. for open seating. Program to begin at 6:30 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Council Bluffs Public Library and Pottawattamie Conservation have teamed up to offer a FREE 4 class series focused on giving you the confidence and background knowledge you need to grow a beautiful native garden that supports wildlife and provides benefits to you and your community. Gardening with Native Plants is a free\, four-part class. Registration is required and a form must be completed for each class you plan to attend. \nClass 4: Getting the right plant in the right location is the key to a successful native garden. This session will meet at the Council Bluffs Convention and Visitors Bureau\, where we’ll tour their native plantings with Nick Bonham from Lucky Toad Restorative Gardens and Mark Eckstrom\, Executive Director of the Council Bluffs Convention and Visitors Bureau. Bonham and Eckstrom will share their experiences building the garden from the sod up\, including design elements\, preparing the site\, selecting species for the site conditions\, and native garden maintenance. \n(In case of inclement weather\, this class will be moved to Meeting Room B.)
